FECPAKG2 is a complete remote-location parasite assessment tool which generates results quickly and easily for the farmer, manager, vet or researcher so they can make informed parasite management decisions without delays. The system is currently validated for nematode eggs in sheep, cattle and equine with the latter being a result of a collaborative project with IBERS, Aberystwyth University. The new FECPAKG2 system makes FEC monitoring (faecal egg counting) a whole lot easier with no microscope required, and removes the need for training of users to identify and count eggs allowing less technical requirements for processing of samples in the field. The FECPAKG2 unit contains a device (called the MICRO-I) which photographs the sample at a microscopic level and uploads an image to the internet. An egg count is performed by a web-based lab technician and the results are returned to the farmer / user by email within 1 hour. The system is now also extensively used for research as it is fully auditable with images of the samples digitally stored online for future referencing. It is a product of Techion Group which was founded in 2010 and is based in Dunedin, New Zealand with the UK / European arm of the business based in Aberystwyth.
