Secondary metabolite gene clusters are extremely common in Fungi – but interpreting what they actually do is currently more of an art than a science. The talk will highlight several stories from the Bristol fungal biosynthesis group which illustrate different approaches to investigating these gene clusters and it will highlight surprising chemistry and conclusions about fungal biosynthesis.
