Investigating cytotoxicity from subcellular organelles to whole cells using Cytell Cell Imaging System

Discussion

Cytotoxicity assays are routinely used in many laboratories for a variety of purposes from assessing the health of cell cultures to evaluating the toxicity of a panel of compounds. The measurement tool employed for these assays needs to be reliable, easy to use and relatively fast. The Cytell Cell Imaging System can be used to monitor the integrity and function of critical cellular organelles and pathways. By combining multiple fluorescent probes in a single assay, a wide range of markers and cellular features can be evaluated for indications of cytotoxicity.
The cytotoxic signatures obtained from these assays are highly informative, and can provide insight into the mechanism of action of cytotoxic agents. Additionally, simultaneous analysis of the morphology of the cell can be achieved using IN Cell Investigator, significantly reducing the time that would be needed to identify and measure these important and informative parameters manually.

Cytell Cell Imaging System combines multiple functionalities and is a compact, application-driven, automated cell imaging system providing robust quantitative results through the use of preconfigured biological applications (BioApps). Each BioApp is an easy-to-use, automated module that covers all steps of a specific biological application or assay to simplify routine cell laboratory tasks while providing high-quality scientific data. In addition, using the BioApps in combination can provide quick answers to a cytotoxicity question prior to scaling up to a more extensive high-throughput screening experiment.
