Discussion

Over the past decade or so it has become apparent that multiple human oxygenases are involved in the regulation of protein biosynthesis, with a few playing rather direct roles of the hypoxic response. The lecture will summarise assigned roles of the 60 or so members of the human 2-oxoglutarate oxygenase family including in the regulation of transcription, RNA modification, and in translation. Efforts to develop selected small molecules targeting these enzymes will be reviewed.
