Identifying synthetic lethal interactions that operate in tumour cells provides one approach to identifying novel targets for oncology. These synthetic lethal interactions can be identified on the basis of prior knowledge but also by the use of relatively unbiased, high-throughput genetic and chemical screens. In my presentation I will discuss both hypothesis driven and unbiased approaches to identifying synthetic lethal interactions.
