Profile of Dr Anna Walker
After graduating Anna worked for two years for Pet Plan Insurance before returning to education in 2007 for her PhD at the Royal Veterinary College, which was entitled ‘Quantitative analysis of locomotion to aid lameness detection.’ In 2010 she joined Moulton College as an equine lecturer but she returned to the Royal Veterinary College last year to continue Postdoctoral Research with the Structure and Motion Laboratory. The main focus of her current research is the influence of jockey technique on Thoroughbred racehorse locomotion. Specific areas of interest include measuring differences in riding technique between experienced and inexperienced jockeys and determining changes in technique associated with improvements in trainee jockey fitness and skill development. Further work will include development of a real-time feedback system to aid in jockey development and investigation of unsteady locomotion such as jumping and whip use.
