Profile of Ian M Wright

Following a senior scholarship from Trinity College, Ian graduated from the University of Cambridge in 1979. He then spent five years in private equine practice before returning to the University as Lecturer in Equine Surgery; a post he held for a further five years. Ian then moved to the Animal Health Trust where he spent six years as Senior Equine Surgeon and Head of the Equine Clinical Unit before joining Newmarket Equine Hospital in 1996. He currently runs the surgical referral service and is director of clinical services at NEH. Ian obtained the Diploma in Equine Orthopaedics from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1991 and became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgery in 1993. To date, he has made over 150 national and international scientific presentations and taught post-graduate courses in surgery, arthroscopy, internal fixation, anaesthesia, stud medicine, radiology and diagnostic techniques. He has published over 50 refereed and commissioned papers on equine surgery and orthopaedics and was awarded the Equine Veterinary Journal Richard Hartley Clinical Award in 1994 and 1999 and Peter Rossdale Open award in 2013. He has also written six book chapters and edited two text books including Diagnostic and Surgical Arthroscopy in the Horse. Ian has been recognised by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons as a specialist in equine surgery since 1992. He has been consultant surgeon for a number of Four Star three day events and International race meetings in United Kingdom, Hong Kong and Dubai and for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
