Profile of Graeme Cooke

After 12 years in practice including referral level equine practice, Graeme worked as a Senior Policy Adviser to the UK Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) with particular expertise in contingency planning, international trade negotiations and devising national strategies. After undertaking a fulltime MBA, he became Director of the FEI Veterinary Dept., responsible for 3500 FEI Veterinarians who work at FEI Equestrian Events, Anti-Doping measures delivery, Welfare policy delivery, and the Education and Communications needed for FEI Veterinarians. FEI events have undergone an enormous growth with a 50% uplift in numbers in the last decade. Very significant advance have been made in the last 4 years in reducing Doping levels, new approaches to communicating policies and in raising the credibility of equestrian sport with governments, with the FEI having recently established with the OIE the new official government recognised “High Health High Performance “category of horse in order to have more practical health requirements when moved for international events.
