Profile of Mark Bamford
Following PhD training in synthetic organic chemistry, Mark joined Glaxo where he rapidly gained medicinal chemistry experience across a range of chemistries, projects and therapy areas. He has led many multi-disciplinary project teams in early drug discovery, ranging from exploratory target identification and generation of the first molecules of interest, through delivery of candidate molecules for clinical development, to translational work to provide confirmation of molecule effect in early clinical trials.
Now with more than 25 years drug discovery experience Mark is Director and Discovery Partnership Leader with GlaxoSmithKline’s Discovery Partnerships with Academia. This is a new approach to early drug discovery which aims to bring together the insight and creativity of the academic world with the drug discovery expertise of GSK to establish truly integrated partnerships that can translate innovative research into medicines that benefit patients.
