Profile of Roberto Solari
Roberto Solari has worked in Pharma/biotech and translational research for the past 28 years. Currently, he is on a 3 year secondment to NHLI Imperial College where he serves as a Visiting Professor collaborating with Professor Sebastian Johnston on the interaction of rhinovirus infection with asthma and COPD as part of a 5 year MRC Programme Grant co-funded by GSK. Previously, he has been a member of the BBSRC Bioscience for Industry strategy panel, the BBSRC Basic Bioscience Underpinning Health strategy panel, and serves on the MRC Training and Careers group. He is also a member of the Science and Impact Advisory Board for the Babraham Research Institute. Prior to this, Dr. Solari was involved in the formation of the company Astex (1999) and served as the CEO of Medical Research Council Technology (2004). In 2007, he served as head of biology for the Respiratory Centre of Excellence for Drug Discovery (CEDD) at GlaxoSmithKline and was made head of the Allergic Inflammation DPU in 2010. His work has been published in leading journals including Cell, Nature, J Exp Med, Curr Biol, J Cell Biol, Mol Biol Cell, J Biol Chem, J Virol and Science Trans Med.
