Profile of Prof Sheena Cruickshank
The principal theme of our group’s work is understanding how immune responses distinguish and responds to microbes (including parasites) and distinguishes a threat from what is beneficial. We use a combination of in vitro and in vivo approaches to characterise the mechanisms of crosstalk between immune and epithelial cells with commensal bacteria or pathogens.
As well as basic lab research we do a lot of outreach work working with communities based in the UK and abroad to discuss the impact of parasite infection and the role of immunology.
