Profile of Dr Shona Wilson
After completing an undergraduate degree in Parasitology at the University of Glasgow I joined the Cambridge Schistosomiasis Research Group to conduct a PhD investigating schistosome-malaria co-infection in Kenyan school children. The group, previously led by Anthony Butterworth and David Dunne, and now by myself, has research interests concerning the interactions between helminth infections and the human host, in particular the mechanisms of immunity to, and immunopathology associated with, schistosome infections. Major emphases include parasite transmission and its influence on the development of human immunity, and the role of co-infection in modulating the human host response to these neglected diseases of great public health importance.
