Profile of Ms Rachel Francoeur
I am a PhD student at the Institute of Biodiversity, Animal Health, and Comparative Medicine at the University of Glasgow. I hold a BSc (hons) in zoology an MSc in aquatic pathology. The focus of my research has been in relation to aquatic pathogens and their impact on hosts. More recently, the emphasis of my work is on host immune response to disease, transmission pathways and treatment efficacy. My current research focuses on pharmacokinetics and immune responses in high endemic areas of schistosomiasis infection. I am looking at absorption and clearance rates of the treatment drug, praziquantel as well as immune function as an indicator or susceptibility to reinfection.
