Profile of Prof Maria-Gloria Basanez
My research focuses on the population biology and transmission dynamics of helminth infections, infectious blindness, and vector-borne diseases. These infections, estimated to affect one sixth of the global population, can result in severe and lifelong disability and premature death. Current research interests include the epidemiological modelling of filarial infections and zoonotic infectious diseases (e.g. taeniasis/cysticercosis; Chagas disease) to support global control and elimination efforts.
