Profile of Dr Graeme Walker
Graeme is the Head of Cellular Pharmacology, Drug Discovery Unit (DDU), at the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute. The DDU is an integrated, industry-standard drug discovery group translating basic biology research from the Manchester Institute and other CRUK centres into medicines for the treatment of cancer. Graeme has over 20 years’ experience working in the pharmaceutical industry, primarily at AstraZeneca where he worked in HTS, Lead Generation and Discovery Sciences Departments. Graeme was Lead Scientists on a variety of nuclear receptor, kinase and epigenetic modulator projects with this work resulting in 3 clinical candidate nominations.
Graeme joined the DDU 3 years ago, and has maintained an interest in advanced cellular assays, phenotypic screening and targeting epigenetic modulators as drug targets. Graeme joined Zeneca in 1996 after postdoctoral research at the University of Glasgow. He has a degree in Biochemistry and a PhD from the University of Glasgow.
