Profile of Dr Emma Beale
I graduated in 2009 with a degree in biochemistry from the University of Otago, New Zealand and it was here that I became hooked on structural biology. I was awarded a Wellcome Trust studentship in Structural Biology at the University of Oxford and completed my DPhil in that subject in 2014. During my DPhil I was exposed to many different structural biology techniques, which drew me towards methods development research. My current position is as a post-doctoral research associate on the VMXm (Versatile Macromolecular Crystallography Microfocus) beamline at Diamond Light Source. Here, I have been involved in developing sample delivery and sample presentation protocols for this new beamline. Parallel to this, I have been involved in developing protein crystallography projects using electron diffraction at the Electron Bio-Imaging Centre (eBIC).
