Profile of Matthias Lauer
Dr. Matthias E Lauer is Senior Principal Scientist at F. Hoffmann - La Roche Ltd, he leads the nanostructure laboratory at the Roche Innovation Center in Basel, Switzerland.
After studying chemistry at the Freie Universitaet Berlin, Germany, he focused on the synthesis and characterization of soft-supramolecular assemblies and bioorganic molecules using Atomic Force Microscopy and Electron Microscopy. At the Physics Department of the University of California Santa Barbara, United States, he probed structure-property relations of plant cell walls and bone using nanoanalytics. With support of the groups around Andreas Engel and Henning Stahlberg at the Biozentrum of the University Basel, Switzerland, he established high resolving imaging technologies to support portfolio projects in drug discovery, pharmaceutical research and technical development at F. Hoffmann – La Roche Ltd. With numerous collaborators he analyzed Lewy Pathology in Parkinson Disease with microscopic techniques, currently, he is visualizing structures of drug-target complexes formed by small and large molecules.
