Profile of Dr Tom Davies
Tom Davies is Director of Molecular Sciences at Astex Pharmaceuticals, and an expert in the application of structural biology to drug discovery. Joining Astex in 2001 as a protein crystallographer, he has led multiple fragment-based drug discovery projects within oncology, respiratory and CNS disease areas, as well as heading Astex’s Target Identification team, with responsibility for selecting therapeutic targets entering the company’s discovery portfolio. He has an extensive background in protein crystallography, structure-based design and fragment-based approaches, and additional expertise in computational chemistry, structural bioinformatics and biophysics. Prior to Astex, he carried out postdoctoral research at the Laboratory of Molecular Biophysics, University of Oxford on cyclin-dependent kinases. He holds a BSc in Chemistry and a DPhil in protein crystallography from the University of York, UK.
