Profile of Prof David Gray
David is Head of Biology at the Drug Discovery Unit which he joined in 2010. His role is to develop strategies for people, facilities, equipment and IT to effectively support preclinical drug discovery across neglected infectious tropical diseases and innovative approaches for diseases of global impact. During his tenure, the DDU has delivered three molecules that are in clinical trials, enabled the start-up of four biotech companies and partnered six projects with pharma including two neurodegeneration projects in 2019 with Takeda and Bukwang. Prior to 2010, he led a unit at GlaxoSmithKline charged with delivering hit discovery and compound profiling to support approximately 40 drug discovery programs.
Over the course of 30 years, David has been recognised as an innovative scientist with a vocation for drug discovery. He has wide ranging expertise, contributing significantly to the selection of over 10 clinical candidates across multiple protein target families and disease areas. David is an author on over 50 papers.
