Profile of Dr Joe Yeeles

Joe Yeeles is a Programme Leader at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) in Cambridge. His lab uses a combination of biochemical reconstitution, structural biology and yeast genetics to discover the mechanisms that underpin faithful genome duplication in eukaryotes.
Joe obtained his PhD from the university of Bristol where he studied the initiation of double-stranded DNA repair in Bacillus subtilis in Professor Mark Dillingham’s lab. He then moved to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center for a 3-year postdoc in Ken Marians’ lab where he used biochemical reconstitution to discover that the Escherichia coli replisome is inherently DNA damage tolerant. He returned to the UK as a FEBS Return-to-Europe fellow for a second postdoc in John Diffley’s lab at Cancer Research Clare Hall Laboratories. In the Diffley lab Joe reconstituted eukaryotic DNA replication origin firing with purified proteins from the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Joe established his lab at the LMB in 2016.
