Profile of Dr Daniel O'Donovan
Dr Daniel O’Donovan is a principal machine learning engineer at healx, a Cambridge based biotech scale up company who are on a mission to transform the lives of rare disease patients. Dan joined healx as an early employee in 2016 and now leads the graph machine learning engineering team and works across the company implementing novel graph technology. Since joining healx he has designed and implemented scalable drug matching pipelines, built the healnet AI platform and worked alongside drug and disease domain experts, pharmacologists and scientists to take healx’ treatments to the clinic. After graduating with a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Cambridge, he found novel applications of machine learning to NMR with Prof. Laue in Cambridge and then worked with Prof. Sliz studying machine learning and protein structure determination at Harvard Medical School. Since leaving academia he has worked at DNA sequencing startups and co-founded an animal health monitoring company.
