Profile of Prof Michelle Peckham

I was trained in biology and physiology during my degree and PhD and then spent 5 years as a postdoctoral fellow working on muscle contraction at Kings College London, UCSF and then York. I was awarded a Royal Society University Research Fellowship in 1990 and worked in the Biophysics Department at Kings College London, where I developed molecular and cellular biology approaches to understanding the cytoskeleton and began to use advanced confocal microscopy in earnest. I joined the University of Leeds in 1997, became Professor of Cell Biology in 2010, and have continued to expand my interest in microscopy. I was president of the Royal Microscopical Society (2016-2019) and am currently its executive honorary secretary of the Royal Microscopical Society.
