The Importance of Mixing: How to Compare Lab Scale Mixing with Full Scale Process Vessel Performance - Reinaldo (Ray) Machado (1-May-2009 to 31-Mar-2010) Process objectives are critical for successful manufacturing of a product. If the mixing scale-up fails the required yield, quality, or physical properties of the product and the costs of manufacturing may be significantly increased . Failure to provide the necessary mixing may result in severe manufacturing problems on scale-up, ranging from costly corrections in the plant to complete failure of a process. The costs associated with these problems are far greater than the cost of adequately evaluating and solving the mixing issues during process development. Conversely, the economic potential of improved mixing performance is substantial. Therefore, at the heart of any scale-up chemical process, there has to be a fundamental understanding of how the mixing processes in a lab reactor compares to the mixing performance of a full scale process vessel which is targeted to receive the lab developed process. This webinar compares lab mixing and large scale mixing, and features excerpts from two short courses given by Reinaldo M. 7th European Short Course on (9-Nov-2009 to 12-Nov-2009) The "Short Course on Principles and Applications of Time-resolved Fluorescence Spectroscopy" is intended for individuals wishing an in-depth introduction to the principles of fluorescence spectroscopy and its applications to the Life Sciences. The course is held in cooperation with Dr. J.R. Lakowicz from the Center of Fluorescence Spectroscopy (CFS) in Baltimore. The course consists of lectures in the morning as well as instrumentation and software hands-on training in the afternoon. The course is taught by Joseph R. Lakowicz, Zygmunt “Karol” Gryczynski as well as Rainer Erdmann and the staff of PicoQuant, who have extensive experience in time-resolved fluorescence and its applications to the Life Sciences. Hands-on experimentation will be offered on various instruments, e.g. lifetime spectrometers and steady-state spectrophotometers, provided by market-leading companies.
