A QbD and lifecycle management approach to analytical method development and qualification will result in a better understanding and fewer failures of analytical methods due to more robust methods which produce consistent, reliable, quality data throughout the lifecycle. This, in turn, will lead to less method transfer failures, OOS results and method “incidents” when used in the routine environment. As the industry now applying Quality by Design (QbD) to process development, it is now being recognized that this is also the way forward to improve and standardise our approach to analytical procedures.
This two day training course presents a brief overview of method validation according to ICHQ2 (R1) and discusses the limitations of this approach in terms of its contribution to failure of methods with regards to method transfer and generation of OOS results later in the method lifecycle. It then illustrates that the lifecycle approach is a holistic process which embraces the philosophies of the traditional approach but results in more robust analytical procedures. Finally a comparison of the current approach (ICHQ2) and the QbD approach is presented. The course focuses on HPLC methods; therefore experience in developing, validating and transferring analytical HPLC methods would be an advantage to participants. << less

In drug development clinical pharmacology is tasked to ensure that patients receive the right dose at the right time. This ensures that the new medicine is safe and effective throughout the patient population. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to recognise the factors that can alter drug response. Knowledge of pharmacokinetics (PK) and pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) relationships is at the heart of this endeavour. For many drugs, clinical pharmacology information accounts for almost 50% of the final drug label, further emphasising the importance of PK understanding in drug development.
Course Objective is to provide participants with an overview of the principles of PK and PK/PD modelling and how, together with regulatory guidances, they can be used to effectively deliver drug development programmes
What will participants gain? * Increased confidence to discuss PK issues within their drug projects * Understanding of the common PK terms and their importance * Understanding of how PK data influences the clinical development programme * An understanding of the factors that contribute to variability in PK * The role of PK/PD modelling in drug development * An appreciation of how regulatory guidances influence PK << less

Over the past decade, NGS technologies have moved at a rapid pace, dramatically reducing costs, and making genome sequencing more routine. What was once unthinkable is now possible. However, most genomes are still sequenced from DNA extracted from multiple cells, which misses differences between cells that could be crucial in controlling gene expression, cell behavior, and drug response. Still, challenges for single-cell sequencing remain, including cell isolation, DNA amplification, and bioinformatics. As the techniques are being refined, subtle differences between cells, such as the tiny genomic rearrangements, will emerge. CHI's Single-Cell Sequencing conference focuses on the links between cell variation in tissues and organ function and further elucidates the origins of diseases. << less

Towards Re-designed Synthetic Systems ... CONFERENCE OVERVIEW: The ability to produce proteins (as reagents or biotherapeutics) of sufficient quality and quantity is important for the academic and industrial sectors. The use of eukaryotic cells as hosts for expression and recovery of recombinant cellular, membrane or secreted proteins has developed markedly over the past decade. This conference brings together academic and industrial researchers working on eukaryotic cells as protein expression hosts, and will address our current fundamental understanding about molecular events that determine productivity and quality attributes in the use of specific cell hosts for specific protein product categories. In particular, the conference will focus on the biology of existing host cells (in terms of competencies for protein expression), structural features associated with success of expression of specific proteins (including the relationships between specific proteins and host cells) and how both host cell and desired proteins may be engineered to generate new synthetic systems for enhanced product expression. The two day conference will consist of presentations by plenary speakers, workshop sessions with invited speakers and speakers selected from offered abstracts and a poster session. Participation will be strictly limited to 220 attendees to enable networking and informal discussion. << less
