Abstract

Delivery is the single greatest obstacle to the widespread application of genomic medicines for treating disease. The use of lipid nanoparticles (LNP) to enable COVID-19 mRNA vaccines has emphatically shown the impact LNP enabled genomic medicines can have. This has resulted in unprecedented interest in the field, with scientific advances in the design and optimisation of LNPs occurring almost daily. This work is trying to address key challenges such as delivery to extrahepatic tissues, increasing endosomal release, improving safety, and enhancing stability. This talk will provide a historical overview of LNP science, discuss some of the fundamental scientific challenges and highlight some of the latest advancements in field, focusing on some of the work Nanovation Therapeutics has been doing to help create the next generation of LNP technologies.
