Abstract

Alzheimer’s Research UK is the leading UK dementia research charity. We believe that medical research can and will deliver life-changing treatments and one day, a cure for dementia.
We support our mission to deliver the first life-changing treatment by 2025 with innovative programmes as the Drug Discovery Alliance and the Dementia Consortium. With the aim of validating targets for dementia diseases, these initiatives bridge the gap between discovery science taking place in universities nationally and internationally and drug development expertise in pharmaceutical companies.
To accelerate discoveries that could lead to treatments for dementia diseases, we also founded the UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI), in partnership with the Medical Research Council and the Alzheimer’s Society. The UK DRI is the biggest initiative to date in dementia research, hosting over 650 outstanding scientists. Our vision is that the collaborative and interdisciplinary work of these researchers will increase the understanding of dementia diseases and ultimately translate into treatments.
Remarkable progress has been made in the past decade, thanks to a growing global focus on dementia research. These advances have given us a glimpse of what dementia research can deliver, and confirm our belief that our strategy to support research can and will change the lives of millions.
