Dr Klio Maratou

Klio Maratou is a GSK Fellow and Scientific Leader within GlaxoSmithKline’s Functional Genomics department. The focus of her group is to develop and implement large scale CRISPR screens in primary immune cells, to link targets to disease biology, in order to improve the probability of translating target knowledge into successful clinical candidates. Her team established CRISPR editing in a range of primary and iPSC cells, including Fibroblasts, Bronchial Epithelial cells and primary T cells. Another area of Klio’s interest is single cell genome editing, and she has introduced CROP-seq to GSK.

Klio holds a PhD in Human Molecular Genetics from Imperial College London and worked as a postdoc at various UK academic institutions: Imperial College London, MRC Human Genetics Unit, MRC Clinical Sciences Centre and University College London. Throughout her career she has been introducing and establishing new cutting-edge OMICs technologies to her institutions. Within her remit as deep cutting-edge technology expert, Klio worked as post-doctoral scientist for groups specialising in different disciplines and has published papers that expand knowledge in the fields of spermatogenesis, meiosis, nociception, glomerulonephritis, pulmonary hypertension and the genomics of rat models of disease.
